Go Green ideas: “Everything you see in the picture is made from recycling the waste items at home. From the compost made from wet waste in kitchen, to lantern and earring hanging from used cardboard boxes, showpieces from ice cream sticks and shells, tea costars from used CDs, From Ganesh idol from clay , decorations from garden flowers and card papers, to showpieces from old glass bottles. Last but not the least , planters from old coconut shells and bottles, to grow more greens 😊 . Hope to create much more interesting this like this and more…”

Wet waste composting: All the kitchen waste goes directly into this stack composter you can see here in picture. I dump the all the wet waste, cover it with fistful of Coco pit and put the lid. Once in a week, mix pinch of culture and leave the rest for the microbes to do their magic! We have grown tomatoes, brinjals, coriander, spinach, fenugreek and  some flower plants using this compost

• Alphonso Mangoes typically are sold in wooden crates, often made from recycled wooden planks.
• Rather than throwing them away, Created a coffee table and a Wooden crate (Red & White) by reusing some of the planks and little creativity.
• The coffee table once finished with a clear coat of lacquer retains its rustic origin and peps up my garden corner.
• Brown planter with Warli painting in the background is made from recycled plastic milk crates which are past their use as milk container.

I make bio enzyme using citrus peels such as lemon peel, orange peel, etc which can be used instead of regular cleaning products that we use for cleaning floors and toilets. It helps us in reducing the amount of waste going to landfills and also, we can cut back on the use of chemical cleaners.

MY TERRACE SPACE KITCHEN GARDEN

I have recently started this activity after a small renovation in the house .So my plants are still young . I grow Garlic, turmeric, onions, tomatoes, Corn, cucumber, coriander, watermelon and musk melon. The Groundnuts and cucumber plants have started flowering. Kitchen waste is used a main compost for the plants and banana peels are the main fertilizer as flower boosters. The stand on which the environment friendly bags are placed are recycled grills that was lying waste from renovation. Gardening is very gripping activity and proves to be healthier for me and for the environment. Happiness that it gives at the time of flowering and harvest is immense and a big time stress buster. I will be expanding more with more greens and veggies soon😊

Aeroponic Tower vertical garden - Growing lettuce in our balcony in a high rise apartment. This tower grows 20 lettuce heads at a time in a space of less than 2 square feet. The system runs on a timer controlled pump pushing nutrient water from the lower reservoir tank to the top of the tower and water falls as rain inside the vertical pipe watering plant roots. The entire system is home made using simple material available in hardware and plumbing stores.
